Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure performed on the labia, which are the folds of skin surrounding the vaginal opening. This procedure involves altering the size or shape of the labia minora (the inner lips) or labia majora (the outer lips). Is it normal to have some extra skin down there? The answer is YES. Some factors affecting the size of the labia are pregnancy, genetics, and childbirth.
BEST CANDIDATES FOR LABIAPLASTY SURGERY
– To improve the physical appearance of your labia
– To reduce physical discomfort (bulky feeling in pants or in a bathing suit)
– Rubbing against clothes when exercising, biking, or running
– Discomfort or embarrassment with sex
– Urinary tract infections
– Difficulty keeping the area clean
CONSULTATION
Our doctors start each consultation by asking about the patient’s medical history, including current medications and medical conditions. Our doctors will decide if the patient is a good candidate for Labiaplasty. Our doctors will then develop a treatment plan based on the individual needs and concerns of the patient.
SURGERY DETAILS
The surgery will take only about 30 minutes to an hour and is done by our female doctors, Dr. Yao and Dr. Yuan. The surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia depending on the patient’s medical condition or comfort level. In the reduction procedure, the unwanted tissue from the outer edge of one or both sides of your labia minora is excised so that it’s even with or receded from the edges of your labia majora and then closed with dissolvable sutures. To enlarge your labia majora, our doctors take a small amount of fat from another body area, such as your abdomen or thigh through liposuction and inject it into your labia majora.

RECOVERY & POST OPERATION
– You will have some swelling, discomfort and pain, but it’s usually easy to manage with over-the-counter medication, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol®).
– Some side effects are swelling, soreness, and bruising, but will gradually settle during the early weeks or the first few days.
– To clean the vaginal area after Labiaplasty, pat clean the vulva and dry very gently and carefully.
– We recommend you rinse with warm water and try your best to rinse after each toilet visit.
– If you are experiencing discomfort while urinating, you can ease the pain by urinating in the shower or running warm water over the area as you pee.
– Wear loose-fitting pants and undergarments during the healing period. Tight-fitting clothes or undergarments can cause friction against the wound and prevent or delay healing.
FROM OUR DOCTORS

“As we age, all skin in the body begins to sag. This includes the labia majora and minora. Extra skin is also more prominent after having children. The excess skin can make wearing bathing suits and tighter pants uncomfortable. Hygiene, exercise and intimacy are also more difficult.
Many are embarrassed to discuss these issues. A quick procedure with minimal downtime can improve many of the above problems.
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to remove extra labia skin that causes uncomfortable rubbing against clothes or pain during intercourse. Sometimes the labia majora sag due to volume loss. In these situation, fat grafting is beneficia.
As a female surgeon, I am sensitive to the needs of women and will discuss your goals in a sensitive manner.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the difference between Labiaplasty and Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Labiaplasty is a cosmetic procedure to improve the physical appearance of the labia minor or majora. On the other hand, vaginal rejuvenation is a procedure to improve the tone and the tightness of your vagina. Currently, Line Plastic Surgery only offers Labiaplasty.
Will my scars be visible?
It will not leave external scars, which is a reason why it is beneficial to have a board-certified plastic surgeon perform this procedure.
How common is it? Is it medically necessary?
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), there are about 10,000 labiaplasty cases done every year. It is not medically necessary, but people get labiaplasty for cosmetic and personal reasons such as wanting a smaller or shorter labia minora. However, it might be medically necessary if your labia get “sucked” or “tucked” into your vagina during sex, which might result in painful tears in your vulva skin.
